When Should You Choose Your Wedding Officiant?
Reverend Dugan and I talk about this topic often: When should a couple choose their wedding officiant? Our short answer: As soon as possible.
The prime months to get married in Southern Indiana is Spring and Fall. As such, these are our busiest months of the year. We are fortunate to have 4 fabulous wedding officiants to help serve the needs of our couples. However, in the popular months our officiants book up quickly. They also lead lives outside of their church/office and spend that time with family, on vacations, etc. This is a good recent example: A groom contacted us to book a wedding officiant for October 3 and the rehearsal on October 2. Two of our officiants were already scheduled for weddings, and the other 2 officiants were going to be out of town. The couple had been planning the wedding since January 2015 and were just now worried they may not be able to find an officiant. Unfortunately, we could not help him, but we did refer him to someone else that may able to assist him. We understand that life gets in the way and certain items on the wedding checklist gets pushed to the back burner. But, when you are thinking about your officiant just remember: Without the officiant the wedding can’t happen. The marriage license is not good without an official signature.
